The second 2012 release on Party Guy Records is the massive transcontinental collaborative effort between two brilliant producers that go by the names of HxdB & Cairo. Canada’s HxdB has been on every forward-thinking label’s radar over the past 3 years. His affiliations run deep, with tracks penned down to Surefire Sound, Tectonic, Freshmore, Palms Out, Car Crash Set, Echodub, and so on. Australia’s Cairo is no amateur either, with tracks previous penned down to labels including Silverback Records and Gradient Audio. Fans of DFRNT, Jacques Greene, and Sleepyhead are sure to enjoy this release.

The release starts off with with both HxdB and Cairo on the 808-induced track “Bassix”. The track starts off sublt and airy, like a train departing the station, and picks up into a fiery dancefloor riddim. HxdB continues our journey on FLunK, a pulsating bouncy tune. The two meet again on the third track “Once Bytten”, again pairing 808 sounds with clinking riddims. The release finishes with a signature Cairo sound as he beautifully plays with an acapella sample that murmurs, “I don’t want to be alone…” over melodic chords…absolutely brilliant!

PGR006: HGLDT & Hissy Fit – Last Summer Dub

PGR006:

HGLDT & Hissy Fit – Last Summer Dub
Release Date: 11/01/11

1. HGLDT & Hissy Fit – Last Summer Dub (Original Mix)
2. HGLDT & Hissy Fit – Last Summer Dub (Martin Kemp Remix)

Listen on SoundCloud

The sixth release on Party Guy Records is a collaboration between two Montreal residents HGLDTHISSY FIT titled “Last Summer Dub”. The chopped-and-screwed vocal loops and deep bass grooves remind us at Party Guy Records of club nights we spent in Montreal, at places like Aria and Stereo, where we would dance all night to all-encompassing beats, that held our attention until the sun had well-risen. As this “Indian Summer” continues, let us reflect on what a summer it has been, with one more bangin, summer groove…

The title track, Last Summer Dub, is sure to be a modern classic. With cross-over appeal to house DJs, as well as the speed garage connoisseurs, this 4×4 journey captures the essence of long summer nights and starry skys. A dreamy soundscape is created as the funky bass weaves in and out of the kicks and snares, making the listener wish it wouldn’t end (just like summer).

On the flip, Martin Kemp is back with the full UK sound giving the track with an absolute mental remix of the original. A dark, twisting shuffle with a serious bass line punches through eerily throughout the track. Keeping many elements of the original but completely switching the vibe, Kemp proves again why he is someone to keep on your radar.

Sit back, relax, and let that summer jam play out one more time..

Debut release from Sleepyhead. One half of SexyTime alongside MiMoSa, Sleepyhead steers away from the clear cut lines of dubstep and ventures into the world of UK Funky and experimental future bass.Supporting this freshmen release from one of America’s rising bass stars, are footwork remixes from Nightwave (formerly 8Bitch) and Sines. The title track Good Love starts off with a deep, sexy RnB hook which is backed up with lush pads.Fancy 808 work and a rolling bass line kick in to top off this super catchy, feel good tune.Next up is the second original Move It!Tribal 808 kicks, a haunting vocal, and an equally creepy synth carry the song until it drops full on into a Julio Bashmore-like masterpiece.Tight hand percussion fills in the gaps throughout the climax until the onslaught of 30 below frequencies are unleashed once again. The Nightwave remix of Good Love wastes no time getting started. From the get-go furious kicks, hats, clicks, and other 808 kit essentials play in harmony with each other, jumping from one polyrhythm to the next.Nightwave proves she is a force to be reckoned with in the new school juke/footwork class of producers.Moving on to the Sines remix of Move It! one can be reassured that everything is indeed bigger in Texas. The boys from South Houston come correct with wicked syncopation and a shuffle that no one could stand still too.A classic in the making, Sines shows they can work an 808 like the best of them.

Sines

Straight outta the dirty South,Houston, Texas, Sines (Leroy Bella ) has quickly become not just one of the busiest producers in stateside bass music but also one with an eye for talent. Responsible for Formant Recordings and a part of the infamous Gritsy Crew. Sines has spent as much time developing the talents of others as he has polishing his own low-down and diverse sounds; just peep some of the names gracing Formant wax. Willfully switching sounds and timbres, Sines are equally happy creating dirty garage-influenced rollers as he is twisting accapellas into sub bass workouts. Listen on SoundCloud
The fourth release from Party Guy Records comes from Atlanta’s Mitch Brown a.k.a. MANIKAN.  Manikan is a DJ / Producer / Promoter who is bringing a breathe of fresh air to the dance floor. Originally from the west coast, he has managed in the last two years to make moves in the dirty south with his high energy sets. When MANIKAN isn’t behind the decks, he is spreading the word about upcoming Gold Sweat ATL events or grinding out tracks in the studio.

Manikan’s debut EP on Party Guy Records, entitled Noche Buena, starts off with the title track; a fierce hybrid of stomping Chicago House kick drums rhythms layered with a raw, bouncing bassline and marching snare hits. Old school diva vocals drive the track and tie it all together in what is sure to be a summer anthem.  “Indigo” follows, and brings a much tougher, thuggier vibe to the EP.  Quick piano stabs, mixed in with white noise bursts, backed up with a punishing drum kit give this tune a big room sound. Next up is “Bamboo Meltdown” which one could liken to Canblaster or Brenmar, with its bouncing, steppy drumwork and catchy synth line. The sparse haunting R&B vocals and tribal percussion paint a dark atmosphere, that is sure to light up any club.  Distal’s remix of “Noche Buena” gets LOW.  Rocking sub bass coupled with lighting fast high hats give this remix the ATL treatment it deserves. Back once again with Party Guy Records is Dev79 with a sound like none other. Dev79’s remix is a melting pot of styles, encompassing glitched out beats with wonky bass slides all under one tropical rhythm.
